We finally made it Florida and had our first meeting with the wedding planner today!  Despite the Florida heat, I couldn’t resist dabbling in a monochromatic scheme.  I paired my flowy black chiffon top with black skinnies for an unbelievably comfortable outfit that made my busy day oh so enjoyable.  I am also learning to love wearing multiple bracelets with outfits – especially those that need a little pizzazz. I can’t wait to try some more monochromatic outfits this fall and winter!

Six Under $50: Fall Staples

Six Under Fifty

Beautiful, timeless pieces are certainly worth a financial investment, but too often trends come and go and are not worth spending extravagant amounts of money on.  Here, I have found 6 fabulous pieces for Fall 2013 that are sure to please a crowd, and your wallet, and that are trendy but have staying power.  I love them all, but I am particularly fond of the red cheetah print ASOS swing dress, which incorporates a hot Fall 2013 color into an already timeless print.  I am also falling head over heals for graphic tees with typography.  Every time I see a nicely sewn tee with a witty saying or foreign phrase, I find myself reaching for my wallet!

So, I will admit I have a shoe problem, but I am seriously loving the shoes at Zara (and tibi) this season.  I would buy all of these in a heartbeat!

Wedding Sneak Peak

T-minus 5 1/2 months until wedding day!  All summer I have been scrambling to finish most of the wedding preparations so I wouldn’t be distracted once classes began again, and I think I’ve done pretty well!  I’m excited to share some of my wedding mood boards with you guys.  Some of the pictures are mine, some are inspiration, and some (particularly the two largest ceremony board photos and the reception location photos) are from our vendors:

I wanted to post my bridal inspiration board, but I don’t know if my fiance will be snooping around here, so here’s a picture of my reception earrings:

Viva la glam!  I am absolutely in love with these earrings and CANNOT wait to wear them at our wedding reception.  5 1/2 months and counting!

Find of the Week

This past week, I ventured to one of my favorite consignment shops in the area to kill some time, and I found something every girl needs: gorgeous black flats.  Not only were these flats beautiful, but they were brand new Stuart Weitzman black mary jane flats.  I tried them on just to see if they would fit and they were perfect!  I was certainly surprised when I found out that they were only $30 (lucky day for me, huh?!).  Thanks to my wonderful find, my transition into a fall wardrobe will be that much easier, and I’m sure I will get much loving wear out of these beautiful shoes:

Shop ‘Til You Drop

Over the last few months I have been introduced to some fabulous and new, to me, shops that have changed my shopping perspective.  As a twenty-something, I have realized that this is the time when a wardrobe shift is needed and now is the time to begin building a fabulous and timeless closet.  This effort has resulted in the search for good quality pieces that are worth the investment, and even some competitively priced fun pieces 😉 .  Over the course of my wardrobe journey, I have stumbled upon a few shops that are making my huge shift, on a small budget, possible.

1) ASOS

Those who love fashion already know the name ASOS, but I have only recently discovered it (and LOVE IT)!  This online store carries a variety of brands, but I personally prefer their own brand.  ASOS takes high fashion trends and fashion forecasting and creates quality garments and accessories that don’t break the bank.  It is a fantastic place to find wardrobe staples, like the black skinnies I just purchased for $20!  Another plus: FREE shipping and FREE returns.  Seriously, you cannot pass this one up.

2) Bauble Bar

If you love jewelry, this is the place for you!  They carry beautiful pieces at affordable prices, and they often have sales where you can snag select bracelets for $10 or a necklace for $20.  Like ASOS, they offer FREE shipping and FREE returns.  Talk about a girl’s dream.

3) Stella & Dot

This is a prime spot for affordable accessories, and I’m sure you’ve seen their bracelets featured in many fashion blog posts across the board (especially their renegade cluster bracelet).  Though the price point is slightly higher than that of Bauble Bar, they tend to offer classic pieces that are worth the investment.

4) Poshmark

Poshmark website front

Poshmark is one of the best organized re-sell portals I have seen.  The site mainly operates via an app for your phone (iPhone only for the time being, but an Android app is coming soon), where you can easily list and buy new and used items.  The items range from Roxy to Rodarte, from American Eagle to Valentino; honestly, the sky is the limit on Poshmark.  Shipping may not be free, but it is definitely low enough to make it worth it, and some sellers will bundle items so you can save on shipping.  Another plus, the app allows you to comment on the item and possibly haggle the price down.

That’s my list so far, but I cannot wait to find new, affordable places to shop!  Any suggestions?

XOXO,

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Consignment shops are one of my favorite places to snag beautiful pieces at bargain basement prices.  My favorite one is a mere 2 minutes away from my apartment, and I frequent it so much that the employees there know me by name.  I stumbled upon a beautiful, brand new black DVF clutch there a few weeks ago and, after weeks of waiting for the price to drop and hoping it stayed on the shelf, I have finally secured it!  I justified the $90 spent on it by figuring that I can use it as my clutch at my wedding in March (Insert the Carrie Bradshaw sentiment: “If I want a ridiculously extravagant pair of shoes, I find a way to buy them“).  Needless to say, I am thrilled that patience paid off; and of course it helped that most people in this town have never even heard of Diane von Furstenberg.  So, here it is:

For the Love of Scarves

Shirt: Cotton On, Cami: vintage, Jeans: Lauren Conrad

Scarf and brooch: vintage, Earrings: Carolee, Shoes: Target, Handbag: Coach

Summer usually isn’t the best time to try to incorporate a scarf into your outfit, but thankfully I have finally found a way to!  I’ve pinned my vintage silk scarf to my shirt with a beautiful pearl brooch I found at a local antique store.  This way, my neck stays cool and sweat-free in the humid North Carolina weather, and my scarf doesn’t end up looking over 50 different ways over the course of my day!

Happy weekend guys.  Have a dance party:

Paint the Town, I Mean Your Lips, RED

Fall always beckons a new set of trends, whether it’s fur vs no fur, silhouettes, or prints, but one of my favorite trends for this fall is the reemergence of the red lip.  Though timeless and classic, the red lip can, and often does, go wrong.  It may take a little tweaking and forethought at first, but wearing red lipstick can be easy as pie once you get the hang of it.

photo

The preparation: Make sure that your lips are conditioned when wearing lipstick.  This general rule will help your lipstick look smoother and last longer.

Don’t forget the first step: LINE THOSE LIPS!  Lip liner is crucial when wearing red lipstick.  Liner helps keep the color from bleeding outside of your lips, which means you won’t end up looking like the Joker at the end of a long day.  Try to match your liner as best as you can to your lip color or go for a neutral lip liner.  Don’t forget that the color of your lip liner will affect the shade of your final product, so try a few combinations to see what works best for you.

The color: For this fall’s trend, steer clear of the orangey-reds and go for crimson or purple-red shades that complement your complexion.  These colors tend to be more flattering on most complexions, unlike orangey reds.  If you want to be a bit daring, try a plum lipstick, but make sure that it isn’t so dark that it makes your face look flushed.

What do you think? Are you going to add some va-va-voom to your fall wardrobe with a red lip?

XOXO,
